This policy explains what personal information HeatPumpTab collects, why, and what you can do about it. We collect very little: we don’t sell data, we don’t run user accounts, and you can read every page on this site without telling us who you are.
Who we are
HeatPumpTab (heatpumptab.com) is an independent website about heat pump costs, rebates and troubleshooting for US homeowners. It is written and operated by Bruno Grediaga, who is responsible for the personal information described here (the “data controller” under European data protection law). You can reach us at any time through our contact page.
Information we collect
When you contact us or share a quote
If you use our contact form, we receive the information you type in: your name, your email address and your message. If you share a heat pump quote, that may include the equipment, size, efficiency rating, your state and the price you were quoted.
We use this only to read and answer your message. If you share a quote, we add it to our cost database without your name, email address or street address. We keep only the details that help other homeowners compare, such as the brand, model, size, state and price. We never publish anything that could identify you.
When you leave a comment
If you comment on a guide, we receive the name, email address and comment you enter, plus your IP address and browser details, which our anti-spam tool (Antispam Bee, which runs on our own server) uses to filter spam. Every comment is reviewed by hand before it appears. Your name and comment are shown publicly; your email address is never published. You can ask us to edit or delete your comment at any time.
When you visit the site
Like almost every website, our server and our security tools automatically record technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time of the request. We use it to keep the site running, to block spam and attacks, and to fix errors. We don’t use it to identify you.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies that are needed for the site to work, including one that remembers your cookie choices. We don’t currently use analytics or advertising cookies. You can change your cookie preferences at any time using the cookie settings link on this site, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Our Cookie Policy lists the cookies we use.
Why we use your information
- To answer you, when you contact us. The legal basis is taking the steps you asked for, and your consent when you send the form.
- To build our cost data from quotes you choose to share, in anonymized form. The legal basis is your consent, which you give when you send the quote.
- To keep the site secure and working, using technical data. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in protecting the site and its visitors.
We don’t sell your personal information, we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don’t use it to make automated decisions about you.
Who we share it with
We only share personal information with service providers that help us run the site, and only as far as they need it:
- Our web hosting provider, which stores the website and its server logs.
- Our email provider, which delivers and stores the messages you send us.
- WordPress plugins that run on our own server for forms, security, caching and backups. Backups may contain form messages and are stored securely.
- An image optimization service that processes the images we upload. It doesn’t receive visitor data.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Advertising
We don’t show ads at the moment. We may show ads in the future, for example through Google AdSense, which would use cookies to show and measure ads. If we do, we’ll update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Contact messages: as long as we need them to deal with your request, and no longer than two years.
- Anonymized quote data: indefinitely, because it no longer identifies anyone.
- Server and security logs: for a limited period, usually a few weeks, unless they’re needed to investigate an attack.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, and withdraw any consent you’ve given. Just send a request through our contact page. We’ll reply within one month and won’t charge you.
If you’re in the European Union or the UK, you also have the right to restrict or object to how we use your information and to receive it in a portable format. You can complain to your local data protection authority. In Spain, that’s the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD).
If you’re in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have the right to know what we collect, to delete it and to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We don’t sell or share personal information as those laws define it.
International transfers
HeatPumpTab is operated from Europe and serves readers in the United States. Our service providers may store information in the US or elsewhere. When information is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we rely on providers that offer appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Children
This site is written for homeowners and isn’t directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use personal information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes, such as starting to show ads, will be noted here before they take effect.
