About HeatPumpTab

HeatPumpTab helps US homeowners understand, fix and pay for their heat pumps.

Buying a heat pump is one of the largest purchases a homeowner makes, and one of the worst documented. Two contractors can quote the same house thousands of dollars apart, and nothing online explains why. Rebate programs change every few months and the official pages are hard to read. When a system fails in January, the answer is buried in a PDF service manual.

HeatPumpTab exists to fix that, with numbers instead of opinions.

What we do differently

We go to the source. Error code meanings come from the manufacturer’s own service manuals, and every troubleshooting guide links to the document it’s based on.

We check rebates against the official program page. Every amount on our rebate pages is verified on the administrator’s own website, and we review them on the first of every month.

We collect real quotes. We’re building a database of actual installation quotes shared by homeowners: brand, size, efficiency rating, state and final price. As it grows, our cost guides will show the quotes behind every number.

We tell you what repairs cost and when to stop. Every guide includes typical price ranges and says clearly which checks are safe to do yourself and which need a licensed professional.

Where HeatPumpTab gets its numbers

Every guide lists its sources at the bottom. The main ones are:

What HeatPumpTab covers

Troubleshooting guides by brand and by symptom, such as Mitsubishi mini split error codes, Daikin error code U4 and a heat pump blowing cold air in heat mode. Rebate guides, starting with the Mass Save heat pump rebate. Cost guides by state come next, built from the quotes readers send in.

How a HeatPumpTab guide gets made

  1. We pick a question homeowners are actually asking, from search data and forums.
  2. We find the primary source: the service manual, the program page or the published cost survey.
  3. We read real owner and technician threads to see how the problem plays out in practice.
  4. We write the guide, with every number tied to a named source.
  5. We check it again before publishing, and review rebate pages every month.

Who is behind HeatPumpTab

HeatPumpTab is written and maintained by Bruno Grediaga. I’m not an HVAC contractor, and I say so wherever it matters. What I do is collect, verify and organize information scattered across manufacturer manuals, government and utility websites and homeowner forums, and present it so you can act on it in ten minutes instead of ten evenings.

I use AI tools to help research and draft. Every fact is checked against a named source before it’s published, and when I get something wrong, I correct it and note the change on the page. What I won’t do is make up a repair story I didn’t live through, or pretend to be a technician.

How HeatPumpTab is funded

Through advertising, and possibly affiliate links or contractor referral forms in the future. Any of these will always be disclosed, and none of them can change what we recommend.
